It is reported that OPPO is developing an ISP chip

On July 6, it was reported that OPPO was developing its ISP chip (image signal processor) to strengthen its technology in image processing. ISP is mainly used for the image signal output by the sensor. It is the core component of image processing and plays an important role in the image performance of mobile phones.

Usually, the ISP is packaged with the mobile phone processor, and it is rumored that Qualcomm's ISP also needs to be purchased separately at a cost. If you want to use a good ISP, you must communicate with Qualcomm in advance and then package it together in the processor.

However, Qualcomm will update the mobile phone SoC every year, which also means that ISPs must also iterate at all times. This causes mobile phone manufacturers to purchase new ISPs if they want better imaging effects. However, if you want to maintain the best image output at all times, a self-developed ISP is a better choice.

Recently, a social media blogger broke the news that OPPO is also developing an ISP, which also means that OPPOs first chip is very likely to be an ISP. In October 2020, it applied for the OPPO M1 trademark. As the code name of OPPO's first self-developed chip, it is likely that this ISP is not the SoC of the mobile phone.

In the first half of this year, Xiaomi also launched its own ISP chip Surging C1, which carries two items in Xiaomi's first foldable mobile phone.

There is not much news about OPPO, including when this ISP will be released, but the product that is most likely to be equipped with the release of this chip may be OPPOs Find X4 series or one of the OnePlus phones that have been included by OPPO as a sub-brand.

It is worth noting that current mobile phone manufacturers, such as Xiaomi and OPPO, have chosen to start with ISP and re-enter the chip manufacturing field. On the one hand, it is to assist their products to have a better performance in the imaging system, and on the other hand, they are also from Start with a simple ISP to prepare for the real mobile SoC in the future.

However, at present, the news of OPPO's ISP has at least proved that OPPO's core manufacturing is not just talking, but how this chip will perform in the future is worth looking forward to.
